Allison Jungheim

Allison Jungheim is the Senior Keeper/ Training Coordinator at Como Park Zoo and Conservatory in Saint Paul, MN.  She has spent the last 20 years providing quality care for the animals at Como Zoo and helping mentor zookeepers to do the same. She currently oversees Aquatic Animals and Large Cats but has worked every area of the zoo.

In addition to Senior Keeper, Allison is the animal training coordinator for the zoo.  She worked to establish an operant conditioning program for over 25 species which includes training the keepers and training the animals how to do basic behaviors such as body part presentations to more advanced behaviors like voluntary crate training, vaccinations, and blood draws. Allison has trained multiple sloths to be handleable for transport, exhibition, programming, and allow voluntary husbandry care and enjoys the challenges that come with training all the animals in the zoo’s collection.

Allison serves as the Vice Chair for the PAX TAG and the Vice SSP Coordinator for the Hoffman’s Sloth in addition to being a Steering Committee member. She is also a member of the Polar Bear SSP Steering Committee and has worked with Polar Bears International on workshops in England and Canada.
